That’s because I consider each a work of art that is as unique as the tree I make them from. I also don’t believe in cutting down trees to make my art. I travel to meaningful places to find wood from previously fallen trees. In a way, I’m just publishing the story of a place as written by a tree over decades and sometimes hundreds of years. I sign each print because I stand by my work. This type of wood is highly regarded in Pacific Northwest (PNW) communities for its durability and natural beauty. Craftsmen and artists favor it for creating intricate woodcut prints that capture the essence of this majestic tree. The vibrant colors and fine grain patterns make it an ideal choice for art that evokes feelings of nature and tranquility.

Woodcut Prints: A Unique Artistic Expression

Woodcut prints made from Western Red Cedar showcase the unique textures and details of the wood. Artists use techniques that involve carving designs into the wood, inking the surface, and pressing it onto paper. This method not only emphasizes the beauty of the wood but also gives each print a character of its own. Because of the organic nature of the material, the prints often reflect the artist's connection to the environment, making them special and meaningful.

The Influence of PNW Culture on Art

The Pacific Northwest is known for its rich natural landscapes, and Western Red Cedar plays a vital role in these environments. Artists inspired by the lush forests, mountains, and waters often incorporate elements of this region into their works. Therefore, Western Red Cedar woodcut prints become a representation of not just the tree itself, but also the vibrant culture surrounding it. Art lovers appreciate these prints because they tell a story of place, nature, and heritage.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0286/7465/4243/files/Western-Red-Cedar_-Custom-size.-lintonart-4260018.png?v=1764036491
